The medical industrial complex is not serving any birthing person adequately: the US has the highest mortality rates of any developed country for both birthing people and their babies.

That said, black women are THREE times more likely to die due to a pregnancy/birth-related cause than white women. Implicit bias, healthcare systems rooted in white supremacy, provider neglect, general healthcare inequalities, access to compassionate individualized care contribute to this horrific reality in our country.

We believe that birth equity not only matters...but that it requires urgent change within the very broken systems that perpetuate these inequities.
